Description

Artificial Intelligence Archiving examines the Sursee Municipal Collection by means of an application that attempts to identify the environment using artificial intelligence. The identification takes place by means of algorithms, which, on the basis of enormous amounts of image data, try to assign the respective photo within a limited language stock. The factual language, which suggests an objective view, reveals the short-circuits that take place between the data stock and the strongly normative vocabulary associated with it. The exhibits in the exhibition are exposed to this supposedly objective and art-illiterate view. Artificial Intelligence Archiving poses the question of the emergence and impact of the "artificial" view in application to cultural assets, such as historical objects or works of art.
